Prepare a bunch of these S’mores Campfire Waffle Cones and wrap them in aluminum foil. Set them onto a grilling rack over the fire for a few minutes and they will be all melty and gooey on the inside, but contained within the cone. No more sticky fingers! Serve the cones with a spoon and enjoy!

Have you ever been to a campfire or a backyard fire? Of course you have! Have you noticed that there’s always that one person who is running around setting everything up and making sure everyone has what they need? If you haven’t taken note of that person, you’re either not that observant, or that person is you! In our home, it’s me. S’mores Campfire Waffle Cones are designed so that person can relax and enjoy the fire just like everyone else!
The one member of the family that tends to be the one who does the grocery shopping and the one who prepares the meals, is often the same one who will feed everyone gathered around the fire. We have a fire pit in our backyard. To be honest, we don’t use it very often. It seems to be too hot to sit around a fire, or we are smack dab in the middle of mosquito season.
I’m just thinking back to one of the few times we have used it when McKenna had a friend visiting. I thought it would be nice to have dinner in the backyard. Nothing complicated, just hotdogs and s’mores. I thought that roasting the hotdog wieners over the fire would be a great idea. That way, everyone could take care of themselves. And, yes, they could, but that was after I set up a table near the fire pit with everything on it.

IT WILL BE FUN AND EASY, RIGHT!?
So, I made sure everyone had one of those extendable metal roasting forks. I made several trips back and forth, bringing out the ketchup, mustard, relish, hotdog buns, etc. Then, I opened the packages of wieners, making sure that the vegetarian wieners were separated from the all-beef wieners. Next, I made sure everyone had a drink. Then, to save myself time later, I set up a big platter with everything we would need for s’mores. Again, I took the time to make sure the regular marshmallows did not get mixed up with the vegan marshmallows!
Next, I had to gather some old newspaper from the recycling bin. Then, I had to fetch the lighter from the junk drawer in the kitchen. Then, I crumpled the newspaper into the fire pit, followed by some kindling, which I had to get from the wood pile. Lastly, I layered on some smaller pieces of wood before lighting the newspaper. Once the fire was burning well, we all had fun “cooking our own dinner.”
When everyone was stuffed with hotdogs and on a sugar high from the s’mores, we decided to go inside and watch a movie. I tidied up outside and brought everything back to the kitchen. I put away the condiments and leftover marshmallows and chocolate. Then, I put the metal roasting forks to soak in water overnight, otherwise, that burnt marshmallow was never coming off! And, while McKenna picked out a movie, and John.e extinguished the fire, I topped up everyone’s drink and set out bowls of chips and popcorn for the movie. So, you see, a backyard fire is super relaxing for me!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR THIS RECIPE
I’m not doing a very good job at convincing you to have a backyard fire, am I? The point of my story, Dear Reader, was to convince you to do all of the work in advance. I have once seen a mom trying to get hot, melted marshmallow off of her son’s face. How relaxing does that sound? I tell you, forget the sticks and skewers. Pile everything into a cone and give them a spoon!
First, you will need some waffle cones. The cones I’m using are the President’s Choice brand. You can find them here. You can also by waffle cones on Amazon. Next, you will need to load up on the filling. For a s’mores cone, you will need three more things at least. They are mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, and graham cookies. But, you don’t have to stop there. You can add in other things too.
In this version, I added mini peanut butter cups, because melted peanut butter cups are the bomb.com! And, to be completely honest, I find a regular s’mores to be quite boring. If you don’t, take the s’mores purist route and keep it simple. You can also consider adding in some M&Ms or pretzels. Salted mixed nuts are a great add in option too.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE S’MORES CAMPFIRE WAFFLE CONES
You might think that the assembly part doesn’t need a section of its own, but I think it is needed. Why? Because, I want you to have the best experience possible with these cones. You want to make sure that each bite, or in this case, each spoonful, has a good mix of all of the ingredients. So, it’s important to layer the ingredients as you fill the cones.

Some waffle cones have a small hole in the bottom. That can be a recipe for quite the mess! If you place a few marshmallows in the bottom of the cone before adding any of the other stuffing ingredients, the melted marshmallows will prevent anything else from dripping out.
The easiest way to put these together is to tear off a sheet of aluminum foil first. Lay the cone on it, leaving about an inch of foil at the very bottom of the cone. Fold that part up over the bottom and then roll the foil around the cone. Fill up the cone and lightly twist the excess foil at the top to create a seal. Easy, right!?

FIRE IT UP!
When it comes to “cooking” the cones, you have three options. I thought it would be best to include other options, because not everyone has access to a backyard fire pit. So, for that reason, you can prepare these over a fire, on a grill or BBQ, and finally, in the microwave. Here is how:
GRILL: Stand the aluminum foil wrapped cones up in a large can or a pot. Place them on the grill over indirect heat for about 5-10 minutes or until chocolate and marshmallows are melted.
FIRE: The wrapped cones can be placed on a grilling rack and cooked over the fire. Don’t position the cones directly over the flame and make sure the flames are not touching the cones. The cones should be at least 8-10 inches above the flame. It should take about 5 minutes and it’s a good idea to turn them over with tongs half way through.
MICROWAVE: Stand unwrapped cones up in a tall glass. Microwave on low in increments of 30 seconds until chocolate and marshmallows are melted. Be sure to remove the foil first if you’ve already wrapped them!
