The Oscars are a great excuse to stay up late on a Sunday night and feed your face with snack food, and this popcorn is filling, fast, and fancy too!

When it comes to snacking, I will always choose salty and savoury snacks over a snack that’s sweet. Sometimes, in our home, that can mean you’ll simply go without. Both John.e and McKenna are sugar addicts, and would much prefer chocolate over chips or popcorn. But, when it comes to popcorn, I like them both equally.

I’ll dig into a big bowl of popcorn that’s buttery and salty, or one that’s sweet too. But, truth be told, I’m not a huge fan of caramel popcorn. (Please don’t send me any hate mail!) I will, however, eat caramel popcorn if it is paired with cheese popcorn, like the popular Chicago style blend. That stuff is awesome!

If I’m making popcorn at home, most of the time I’ll make either a butter salt popcorn, or one like the one you see in front of you. This Oscar Party Popcorn has white chocolate and sprinkles, but surprisingly, it’s not overly sweet. The reason for this is that the popcorn to chocolate ratio is quite large. I used one cup of melted white chocolate to coat 16 cups of popped pop corn.

Oscar night wins over the need to reduce our sugar intake. It’s once a year, so it’s okay that we eat chocolate coated popcorn with cocoa nibs, chocolate covered quinoa, and of course, lots and lots of sprinkles. The televised Oscar awards show is long, so we’ll need the energy boost from the sugar to stay awake until the very end.

Are you an Oscars fan? Do you plan a viewing party at home or do you go to a friend’s house? I can still remember the first time I attended an Oscars party. It was so much fun! At the time, I wasn’t a huge movie buff, but the food was delicious and the company was great too.

For the past few years, we have watched the Oscars at home – just the three of us. We will usually have pizza or nachos, followed by treats like this Oscar Party Popcorn, or we’ll have pretzels, chips, or chocolate. (The pretzels are for me, of course!) I don’t think we’ve actually made it to the end of the Oscars show for the past three years running. Age is creeping up on us and we need our beauty sleep if we’re going to be able to function the next day at the office.

Either way – staying at home alone or hosting a party at your place, or even if you’re going out, Oscar Party Popcorn would be a great snack to serve your guests. It’s really fast and easy to make and it’s really inexpensive too! In my particular version, I used mostly organic ingredients, but that’s because those are what I had on hand when I thought about putting this popcorn recipe together.

You can use non-organic if that’s what you have. When it comes to popcorn, we always buy the Three Sisters brand, because we love the taste. It’s organic and we always buy the variety pack. The kernels are a little smaller when popped, but the taste is super fresh. This is not a sponsored post, and I’m not pushing the brand on you, but if you ever see it in your travels, try it and let me know what you think! It’s a little pricey, but if you’re a popcorn fan, like we are, then it’s worth it.

Like in many of my other recipes, I often state that if the recipe requires only a few key ingredients, then you should use the best that you can afford. If you can only afford one better quality ingredient, then it should be the white chocolate since that is the most dominant flavour in this particular recipe.

If you don’t have any chocolate covered popped quinoa, or cocoa nibs, then you can use other ingredients in this recipe. Candy coated chocolate, such as M&Ms would work well. You could use chocolate chips, pretzels, and even toffee bits. You can even add jujubes, gummy bears, or gumdrops if you want to take a more casual, candy-like approach. The possibilities are endless, really!

Popcorn, for any occasion, is meant to be fun, so have fun with it. Now, with only 15 minutes maximum to make this recipe, you have no excuse, because there’s lots of time. You could probably pull it off during the commercial breaks, because we all know how long those are during the Oscars! Happy snacking, Dear Reader, and I hope your top picks win the statue!

Oscar Party Popcorn
Ingredients
- 16 cups popped popcorn
- 1 cup white chocolate, melted
- 1/4 cup chocolate coated popped quinoa
- 1/4 cup chocolate coated cocoa nibs
- 1/4 cup sprinkles, black and gold colours, if possible
Instructions
- Spread the popcorn out into an even layer on a large baking sheet. Set aside.
- Melt the chocolate and pour over the popcorn as evenly as possible. Wait just a minute so that the chocolate can cool down a little, then toss the popcorn with your hands. Your hands will work best!
- Once the popcorn and chocolate have been mixed together, evenly sprinkle over the popped quinoa, cocoa nibs, and sprinkles.
- Place the baking sheet in the fridge for five minutes. The chocolate will firm up quite quickly.
- Remove from fridge, transfer to a large bowl and serve. Uneaten popcorn can be safely stored in a food-safe, resealable bag for up to five days.
